Brave

We are braving another cinema in Shanghai, this time the UME International Cineplex to see Disney/Pixar's Brave. It's awesome how we chose our wedding date to coincide with a release of a Disney or Pixar animated film almost each and every year! How kind of Disney to celebrate us in this manner!

So far the theater itself is a massive improvement over our last dreadful experience! I just hope the film is good. I haven't read many positive reviews...

I'd love to hear what you thought of it. I wanted to take my kids to see it but wanted to get some feedback first. Once again, love your blog. And happy anniversary to you and Michael!

Thank you kindly, Gerb, for both the anniversary wishes and the blog love! I thought it was a good film. A little bit Pocahontas, Little Mermaid, and Brother Bear. I'm not a big fan of kids thinking they know better than their parents (Little Mermaid) but I found this somehow less offensive. No lovey-dovey stuff other than the King and Queen who are sweetly in love after four kids. However, there were some quite frightening bear-related parts that had Ben grabbing my arm and squeezing for dear life. He'll turn 9 next week, but neither of my kids have been exposed to lots of television/movie violence (just lots of musical theater! ;) ), so they might respond a little stronger than other kids. I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm disapointed, but this feels way more like a Disney film than a Pixar film. It was STUNNING to look at however... that is one thing Pixar just keeps getting better and better at! Hope that helps!

Fantastic review, thanks! I read the plot in Wikipedia this morning and thought it did sound a bit Brother Bear-ish. And not at all what I was expecting from the vague previews.
