This time of year the blue sky and sunshine disappear and the marine layer rolls in thick and heavy, covering the entire South Bay area with high, misty fog. Locals call this "June Gloom." I spent my childhood living in Ventura County and played at places like Port Hueneme, Point Mugu, and Zuma Beaches during the summer where we called this cool summer fog "Beach Weather," meaning the type of weather that rolls in from the beach. Here, beach weather means sunshine and surfing! Right around the 4th of July weekend the fog gently rolls away and the summer sunshine begins, and everyone misses that nice marine layer!
