A time to mourn

My Uncle Jim passed away this evening. This is my mother's only sibling and the oldest one on that side of the family, my grandparents have long since passed away. My Uncle had three boys, my cousins Jeff, Jamie, and John and as I only have a little brother, I was the lone girl on my mom's side of the family tree. I remember playing at my Uncle Jim and Aunt Jean's house as a little girl and being doted on like no where else. I also remember wishing to have a little girl and to not follow in my Aunt's footsteps and only have sons!

This will be a new experience for us as parents, as no one the boys know has passed away in their lifetimes. They are already in bed tonight, so we'll be waiting until tomorrow to tell them the news.

My mom and her big brother Jim at Nathan's first birthday party.

Here is the entire Rayner side of the family, including all three of my cousins, their parents and my parents. Nathan's first birthday coincided with our return from living in Japan, so we threw an enormous party and everyone we hadn't seen in a year came. Of course they were really coming to see Nathan, but we were happy anyway.

so sorry to hear of your loss... I think I told you I had an uncle named Jim - he one of my favorite people... but even stranger - his wife was named Jean as well!!
